Most of our partner schools do not have a computer for every learner, and many have none at all in the classroom being used. That used to be treated as a barrier. We now treat it as the correct starting point.
Sorting cards into categories, running a classroom survey by show of hands, plotting results on the floor with chalk — these unplugged activities teach the actual logic of data (collection, bias, comparison) faster than any app does, because nothing is hidden behind an interface.
By the time a device does arrive, learners are asking it to do something they already understand, rather than learning the concept and the interface simultaneously.
